❁ Cedar Smudge

Smudging is the practice of burning a herb or combination of herbs with the intent of banishing negative energies from oneself and one's space. Many indigenous cultures ritually burn herbs or incense as a means of cleansing and protecting the physical and spiritual bodies. A smudge mixture is created with herbs that have specific desirable qualities. The herbs are lit and the flame is blown out so that the herbs can slowly smoulder. The resulting smoke is directed as needed to cleanse the body, space, healing tools and/or ceremonial objects.

Cedar is a medicine of protection. Cedar trees are very old, wise and powerful spirits. Cedar is often used to cleanse a home or apartment when first moving in, inviting unwanted spirits to leave and protecting a person, place or object from unwanted influences. Cedar is used as a name for a number of different genera of trees and shrubs. The primary ones are Cedrus, Thuja, Libdocedrus, and Juniperus. The Junipers are not truly Cedars (scientifically) but are used as such by many people. Keep in mind that these scientific names have little meaning to the people using them as medicine in traditional ways.

Smudging is a great way to purify your space and to remove any stagnant, stale, yucky energy. Cedar has a distinct, rich, earthy aroma! Everyone smudges in a different way.
I start the smudging by setting my positive thoughts and good intentions. I light one end of the cedar bundle and once it starts smoking, I blow it out. I gently fan the smoke with my hands upwards and over my body allowing it to touch and cleanse me, taking in the aroma while doing so. I walk into my home or office and gently blow or fan the smoke with either my hands, but you can also use feather if you prefer. When I feel like smudging my crystals and rocks, I hold them over the smudge stick allowing the smoke from the smudge bundle to come up over them. I do my prayers out loud while walking through my space and sometimes, I set a little area where I can get on my knees and do a little meditation.

This smudge wand will last you months and months if used properly.
