The Sacral Chakra or Svadhisthana is about Security, Sense of Others, Sexuality, Creativity, Empowerment, Co-creativity and Sincerity.
We will work through these over the next coming days but let’s start with Security.
Security And The Sacral Chakra
The Sacral Chakra builds upon the Root Chakra, for instance when the nurturing has been developed and fulfilling whilst young then one of it’s gifts to the sacral is the quality of security. If however on the other hand these have not been laid down properly blockages will occur.
Sense Of Others And The Sacral Chakra
This leads naturally on from security and relates to betrayal of our security or the alternative, feeding it. Those who betray it become the ‘others’ in our environment and how this develops as a youngster relates to our potential for mature relationships. It goes without saying that a positive, loving recognition from those in a young child’s life is an essential basis for healthy individuality.
Sexuality can be interpreted in a broad sense, not just the ‘act’ of sex but acceptance of sexuality, how that might relate to modern day age right now and culturally. What are the norms, the challenges and confrontations of gender, gender roles etc?
Bodily structure, instinct and the autonomous aspects of sex belongs to the root chakra. Consciousness of sexuality and sexual choices are related to the sacral chakra.
There are many teachings, for instance with religion and even in some spiritual practices that have taught in such a way as to link guilt to the ‘act’ of sex or sexual thoughts, actions etc causing confusion, doubt and possibly other negative emotions in our collective unconscious. This can lead to complex and/or inhibited sex lives. There are conflicts between gender in family roles, the ideal of partnership and mutual support evaporating.
Even some spiritual practices view sex and even procreation as a lower activity to be transcended in the interests of spiritual strength. Even dedicated athletes, great thinkers and creative people of all kinds aschew sexual activity before the big match, battle of wits or a new project.
Apart from the Eastern teachings of ‘Tantra’ there is little guidance on sexual activity or union as a means to, and essential part of, spiritual experience. Within sexual energy there is beauty, wonder and a level of spiritual communication that is all too often ignored.
When we let something become suppressed, condemned or surrounded by guilt then it rules us, in a negative way and is not a bright, honed tool to be used with skill and expertise. With sex this can then become burdened with darkness and denial it breeds degradation, pornography and abuse. It becomes a source of fear and anxiety instead of delight.
However when sexuality is seen as a life tool, then such issues as celibacy, sexual abstinence and continence also take on a different light, when it is through free ‘choice’ it may be enlightening.
Working with the sacral chakra can lead to greater clarity about our sex lives.
I shall leave you with that thought until tomorrow!
